In one word, what was your sprint weather?
A thirty-second round where everyone shares a single word that captures how the sprint felt—stormy, foggy, sunny, humid.
How to use it
Ask each person to share one word only—no explanation required unless they want to. This keeps the opener fast and inclusive for large groups.
If the words skew negative, note it aloud with care: “Sounds like we carried a lot this sprint.” That validation sets a safer tone for the rest of the retro.
Capture the words on a shared board so you can refer back when you cluster themes later.
Retrospective boards that pair well
Weather and mood metaphors pair naturally with emotional and metaphor-based boards so the team stays in the same language from icebreaker to columns.
